Oceans Without End
summer 2023
A creative writing course and summer practice period for poets and secret poets seeking creative incitement and genuine solidarity around an intuitive poetic process. Find flow, gather your fragments, make a Water Book, and enjoy the satisfactions of making something beautiful with your imagination.
We begin June 14.
The full workshop description may be found here.

“My purpose is to provoke and nurture artistic work, which can lead to poems, or projects, and even books, but the result I most hope to see is when a whole life is transformed by the attention, skill and care we learn to bring to ourselves and our world, through the practice of reading and writing poems.”

A Summer Project, A Summer Pace
Our intention is to write lines, fragments, and drafts of new poems during the hazy days of summer. To enjoy the experience. To fall in love with new poets and poems. To become more fluent in our creative expression. To learn new forms.
Toward the end of the session, we'll assemble a small collection—A Water Book— with a season's worth of our writing. In the process, we'll gain insights into how to create a micro-manuscript, and greater confidence in our ability to curate our own work.
Oceans can be done at your own pace from wherever you are in the world, however there are regular Live gatherings on Zoom (recorded for your convenience) if you enjoy company and accountability along the way. Course work is unlocked weekly for 6 weeks but most students will take their time to complete the sequence.
You are encouraged to set forth with us on June 14th and return in September to celebrate your season of writing, when we gather for a group reading.
Bonus:
Those who complete Oceans Without End (summer) and Other Doors: X Ways to Revise a Poem (fall) will be invited to apply to Holly’s manuscript incubator, A Body of Work, which happens each winter.
Why Write?
Oceans Without End is a sultry summer practice period for poets and secret poets who want to remember the ocean, be more like water, and complete a book composed of poetic fragments. After a summer recess, the Fall poetry intensive, Other Doors: X Ways to Revise a Poem, offers a deeper focus on craft, and special attention to the revision process. Both of these courses include live workshops, asynchronous craft lectures, and coursework suited to committed writers who wish to deepen their engagement with poetry. Your only prerequisite is the willingness to pick up the pen.
Spacious and steady facilitation will support your personal process as you cultivate the skills and nerves required to make art, even while leading a full life that may include children, work, house holding, and various commitments to the collective.
The courses are designed to be taken together and enrolling in both, is an ideal way to give form to a personal writing practice over a 6 month period. Get in touch with Holly if you want to know more.
